Telecom Resources — FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About IT Procurement and Telecom Brokerage

Straight answers to the questions Texas business owners ask most about telecom brokerage, business connectivity, and the IT procurement process.

How does a telecom broker get paid if it costs me nothing?
Telecom brokers are compensated by the carrier or provider after a contract is signed — not by you. This is a standard industry model, similar to how commercial real estate brokers work. The carrier builds broker compensation into their pricing model regardless of whether a broker is involved, so using a broker does not increase your cost. In many cases, the broker’s negotiating leverage and volume relationships result in lower pricing than you’d get going direct.
What is the difference between a telecom broker and a direct rep?
A direct carrier rep works for one carrier and can only sell that carrier’s products. Their goal is to put you on their employer’s services. An independent telecom broker represents no single carrier — they work across 200+ providers and are obligated to find the best fit for your organization, not the best fit for a carrier’s quota. This distinction matters most when comparing price, coverage, and contract terms across the full market.
What does a free telecom audit actually involve?
A telecom audit is a 30-minute consultation where we review your current services, contracts, and technology environment. We identify what you’re paying, what you’re getting, and where gaps or overspend exist. After the audit, we present a full carrier comparison with options across every relevant provider at your location. There is no obligation to move forward, and the audit costs you nothing.
How long does the IT procurement process take?
Timeline varies by service type. A broadband internet comparison and contract can be completed in one to two weeks. Dedicated fiber or complex multi-site SD-WAN deployments typically take four to eight weeks from audit to signed contract, with installation following the carrier’s standard provisioning timeline. We manage the entire process on your behalf and provide regular status updates throughout.
Do you only serve businesses in Texas?
No — we serve businesses across all 50 states. Our headquarters and primary market is Texas, with offices in San Antonio, Austin, Houston, and Dallas, but our carrier network and procurement capabilities extend nationwide. Multi-site organizations with locations across the country are well-served by our model, as we can consolidate procurement across all locations under one point of contact.
What happens after I sign a contract — do you disappear?
No. Post-sale support is a core part of how we work. We remain your point of contact for installation coordination, escalations, billing disputes, and renewal reviews throughout the contract term. Unlike a direct carrier rep who may be reassigned or leave, your relationship is with Alamo Telecom — not with an individual at a carrier.
What types of businesses do you typically work with?
We work with businesses of all sizes — from small professional services firms to multi-location enterprises. Our model is particularly well-suited for organizations with 10 or more employees who rely on business-grade internet, phone systems, or security solutions. We have experience across healthcare, legal, financial services, logistics, manufacturing, and technology sectors, among others.
Can you help if I’m still under contract with my current provider?
Yes. We can review your current contract, identify your renewal window, calculate any early termination costs, and determine whether the savings from switching justify breaking the contract early. In many cases, a new carrier will offset ETF costs to win your business. We also help you prepare for contract renewals so you’re not caught in an auto-renewal at unfavorable rates.
